T422: Hvdc Converter Station Electromagnetic Environment

The main objective of this study was to characterize theoretically and experimentally the electromagnetic environment of HVDC converter stations. Transient EMI as well as steady-state RI and TVI measurements were made at BC Hydro's Arnott station and Hydro-Quebec's Chateauguay station. Theoretical calculations were made using a special computer program, the Numerical Electromagnetic Code, to evaluate the effectiveness of shielding and filtering used in converter stations.

T216: Measurement of Reradiation of Broadcast Signals By Power Lines

Various remedial measures used to reduce re-radiation of radio broadcast signals from transmission lines are investigated. The effectiveness of each is given. RF current at the base of the tower is shown to be a reliable and accurate measure of the reradiation from a transmission tower. Specific remedial measures for use on double-circuit lattice-type towers are recommended for cases where one or two radio broadcast frequencies must be treated.
