T257: Investigation of Relay Performance With Current Output From Saturated Ct's

The objective of the project was to study the effect on the performance of certain protective relays, and of saturation on the associated current transformers. In this respect, the scope has been limited to the study of instantaneous and inverse time overcurrent relays and biased differential relays in common use by utilities. A subsidiary objective has been the development of the test techniques related to this performance assessment.

T83: Effect of Loads, Shunts & Network Uncertainties On Short Circuit Relay Settings

Short circuit calculations usually performed for determining the setting of line protection relays neglect factors such as loads and shunts, and assume that all network parameters, such as line impedances, are known with perfect precision, which is not the case. It was the goal of this research project to determine whether these simplifications may result in relay malfunction.

T750: Harmonic Effects on HVDC Control Performance

Harmonic interaction between AC and DC systems through the HVDC converter was investigated. It was shown that interactions share a common basic principle. The conversion from AC to DC and DC to AC of harmonic and non-harmonic frequencies in the AC and DC voltage and current waveforms are reviewed and a methodology is developed for a detailed analysis of interactions. A possible study plan for the evaluation of harmonic interaction phenomena is presented.
