3404: On-Line Partial Discharge Measurements and Off-Line Dielectric Spectroscopy Measurements of Six 115 kV Oil-Filled Cable Systems

To investigate the effectiveness of Partial Discharge (PD) measurements on fluid fill cables, PDmeasurements were performed on six underground transmission cable circuits that ranged in agebetween 37 and 56 years old. Partial discharge activity was detected from the terminations of H11Land H3L Ca2, whereas for H3L Basin TS to Mill St partial discharge activity originating from withinthe main cable insulation was detected.

G605: Investigation of Cable Fire Protective Coatings

The objectives of this study were to develop a test methodology to evaluate the performance of fire protective coatings as applied to cables and to determine the effectiveness of commercial coatings in preventing cable fire spread. To assess the fire retardant characteristics of ten commercially available coatings, a small scale laboratory fire method and an oxygen index test procedure were developed.

T240: Short-Time Breakdown Characteristics of SF6-Insulated Cables

A study was carried out on the subject of short-time breakdown characteristics, with particular reference to the influence of an insulating spacer on the V-t characteristics of a coaxial- cylinder gap. A semi-empirical model was developed, allowing an adequate evaluation of the V-t curves of coaxialrcylinder gaps. The typical performance of 550- and 800-kV compressed-gas-insulated buses was also evaluated.
