3001: Accelerated Aging Test for Elastomer-Based Gasket Materials
The majority of large electrical equipment is oil-filled. The oil serves as both coolant and the primary electrical insulating medium. Typically, this equipment is in welded steel housings, with openings for access, connections, etc. Soft gaskets are installed around all of these openings, to prevent leakage. Good gasket materials will maintain an oil-tight seal for the life of the equipment, or at least until disassembly is eventually needed.Too often, the materials chosen fail during in-servic
