Nova Scotia Power Inc. initiated the decommissioning of the 15 MW Maccan coal-fired generating station early in 1992. The Maccan station was constructed in the late 1920's, and planning for decommissioning was not an integral part of the construction activities. As a result, increased time and resources were applied during site reviews and investigations at the time of retirement.
