This report summarizes the results of a series of dynamic impact tests involving 2 inches and 4 inches, Sch. 80 carbon steel pipes. The results of these tests provided experimental data describing the dynamic deformation behaviour of pipes and elbows. These were compared to predictions obtained using analytical methods currently available for analyzing pipe impact events.

G756: Development of Non-Intrusive Instruments for the Measurement of Pulverized Coal Mass Flow and Air Flow in Utility Boiler Coal Pipes - Phase I & II

A method and apparatus for monitoring the relative mass flow of pulverized coal and air in pipes fed from a single pulverizer is described. The approach uses two light beams which shine across the pipe. The opacity of the flow is measured by monitoring the average attenuation of the beams. The velocity of the flow is measured by estimating the time delay, using cross-correlation, for flow events in the pipe to pass the two beams. The two primary objectives of the project were to develop procedures for the more effective removal of organics from boiler make up water supplies and to increase the life of WBA resins. Recently reported research on the effects of acid deposition and air quality on forest productivity has been critically appraised. Tree growth decline and dieback have been observed in Central Europe, Scandinavia, eastern United States and Canada.
