G67: Investigation of Boiler Tube Inspection by Infrared Thermography

The application of infrared thermography to the inspection of boiler tubes for internal defects was studied. A technique was identified whereby simulated internal defects could be detected under laboratory conditions. Since the technique relies on the ability to circulate water through the boiler tubes under "shut down" conditions, it could only be used at a limited number of generating stations immediately.

G1003: Pilot Scale Trace Element Studies - Phase I

A study has been carried out to assess the usefullness of a pilot scale combustion facility (640 MJ/h) for predicting trace element emissions from a full scale power plant burning the same coal and equipped with a similar control device, which in this case was an electrostatic precipitator (ESP). Two different coals from two power plants that had previously carried out extensive emission testing were used, duplicating as closely as possible the full scale combustion and ESP operating conditions.
