G660: Reburning With Sorbent Injection For So2 and Nox Control

A process for simultaneously removing sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxides was developed at Ontario Hydro's 640 MJ/h Combustion Research Facility and involved the integration of reburning with sorbent slurry injection. The study was conducted simulating boiler operating conditions at Lambton and Lakeview thermal generating stations by using a medium sulphur eastern US bituminous coal as primary fuel and natural gas as reburn fuel. A study has been carried out to assess hardfacing in Coal-Fired Power Stations. This study consisted of three stages (a) a survey of coal-fired power stations to determine areas of high wear (Stage I), (b) preparation of a manual of hardfacing materials (Stage II), and (c) the in-plant testing of hardfacing to demonstrate the applicability of this technology in a coal-fired power station (Stage III).

Pattern recognition and signal classification techniques were applied to acoustic emission signals from diverse sources to determine whether such signals could be reliably recognized and classified. G395: Hydrogeological Design Considerations for Fly Ash Fills

As more stringent coal ash disposal regulations are being developed by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the likelihood that Canadian government agencies will follow suit, Canadian Utilities will be required to conduct more detailed and complicated groundwater studies in order to obtain regulatory approvals. At present, several states in the U.S. already require the use of groundwater models to predict the impact of ash disposal on the environment as part of their licence application.
