Models for transformer saturation which are currently available for use in load flow and stability programs were reviewed. The consequences of not modelling saturation were examined and a mathematically sound model for load flow and stability studies was developed. CEATI has funded a number of research projects to improve the integrity of transmission lines during weather-related dynamic loading. T673: Atmospheric and Surge Wavefront Effects on Limits of Approach

The statistical properties of the atmospheric correction factor for the dielectric strength of air is determined for 11 different climatic regions in Canada, from hourly records of wet and dry bulb temperature and pressure over a ten year period. The mean value is in the range 1.001 to 1.01, when adjusted for altitude. The standard deviation is generally in the range of 1 to 1.5%, although it is less in coastal regions and for large gap lengths, and up to 2.5% at higher altitudes. It is proposed

This project provides a general specification for high speed shunt reactor switches rated 362 kV through 800 kV. The switches will allow for the rapid disconnection and reconnection of shunt compensation reactors on high voltage power lines.
