T532: Effect of Powerline Faults on Pipelines in a Common Corridor Phase I

The objective of the project was to study the effect of powerline faults on pipelines in a common corridor. Phase I concentrated on establishing a laboratory set-up that will permit the simulation of field conditions for pipeline damageability studies. Initial experiments have been performed primarily at 10 and 20 kA for 6 and 12 cycle durations. T425: Long Term Stability of Valve Elements Used In Metal Oxide Arresters Main Report +Addendum

The long term stability and life expectancy of metal oxide valve elements used in AC gapless surge arresters have been investigated for products from 11 manufacturers. A total of 192 valve elements were monitored in four long-term stability tests, each of which ran for 2700 hours or more, in ovens at temperatures ranging from 75 to 175 degrees celsius. The applied AC voltages were in the range of 1% to 23% above the Continuous Operating Voltage specified by the respective manufacturers.

Various methods have been investigated for the generation of surge-like waveforms for the field testing of gas-insulated switchgear. Most of these have the disadvantage of requiring a new test set costing in the range of $300,000.
