The objective of this study was to evaluate the feasibility of using computational methods to determine the drag coefficient of bare and ice covered conductors. The drag coefficient on bare and idealized ice-covered stranded single and twisted-pair conductor sections was determined using direct wind tunnel measurements and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulations for Reynolds numbers ranging between 104 and 105.
