This is a report of a survey of owners of ground source heat pumps across Canada to determine their satisfaction with this efficient heating and cooling technology. A comparison of the findings from this survey and earlier surveys of air source heat pumps and high efficiency gas furnaces is also presented. Electronic office equipment is the fastest growing end-use of electical energy in North America. However, no comprehensive data exist on the operating characteristics of individual devices on which utilities can base conservation programs. U583II: The Economics of Horticultural Lighting for Growth Chambers - Phase II

A study was carried out to determine the total energy consumption for an artificially illuminated, totally enclosed growing room used for commercial crop production. Energy balances on a prototype Controlled Environment Agricultural Facility (CEAF) were calculated for four crops (lettuce, tomato, cucumber and roses) when grown in six locations in Canada. The annual operating, capital and electrical energy costs and the potential annual income from a CEAF are reported.
