G388: Evaluation of a Condenser Fouling Monitor

The influence of fouling on heat transfer resistance (HTR) was investigated at the Coleson Cove Power Station (New Brunswick Power Commission) using a model heat exchanger system over a 200-day period. The influence of Amertap balls on HTR was examined with the objective of developing a tentative fouling control program. The project's objectives were satisfied in that the usefulness of the fouling monitor in identifying and quantifying fouling problems was demonstrated.

Some chemical compounds (e.g., nitrilo-tris-methylene phosphonic acid (NTMP), citric acid and polyacrylamide) may change the growth habit (size and shape) of gypsum.
