T784: Characteristics of Stress on Transformer Insulation Subjected to Very Fast Transient Voltages
Transients generated due to disturbances in Gas Insulated Stations (GIS) are characterized by fast risetimes, in the order of 10 ns, and amplitudes reaching perhaps to 3 pu of peak rated voltage. Given that factory tests on transformers are less severe, the objectives of this project included (a) conducting tests on selected transformer windings to characterize their response to steep-fronted surges; (b) identifying a suitable means for modelling transformer windings for this duty; and finally,
