T512: Forecasting of Damaging Lightning Strokes By Radar Observations

The objective of the report was to determine the feasibility of forecasting in real-time the location of lightning from observations of thunderstorms with radar. The study was performed with historical lightning, outage and radar data. Correlations between several characteristics of the lightning flash revealed that strong flashes are generally rare and closest to the radar echo.
